Located in the town of Sutton this railway is a multi-use path and good for a nice and easy Sunday ride. The point to point can either be started in Sutton or at Zephyr Tract in East Gwillimbury. Originally a spur line from the Toronto & Nipissing Railway, the Lake Simcoe Junction Railway dates all the way back to 1877. This line ran all the way north passing Sutton with its final stop at Jackson’s Point on Lake Simcoe. Due to little usage the railway was decommissioned in 1979 with its tracks removed in 1981.
Fun fact: before refrigerators were invented this railway shipped ice blocks down south in the winter for people’s ice boxes to later use as a refreshment in their drinks.
