Linking the two cities of Barrie and Orillia this railway line was once part of the first steam railway that entered service in Upper Canada. The service and passenger train began in the late 1800s and due to lack of service, the railway was eventually abandoned in 1996. There are many more historical signs along the path to take you further into its history. Upon each road crossing, you will also see trail maps and progress markings. It is long enough to get a good exercise in but also great for families to enjoy. There are not many places to stop between the two cities so be sure to pack plenty of water! If you would like to continue your journey, there are a couple of other rail trails based in Orillia. Both the Uhthoff Trail and the Ramara will take you northwest and northeast respectively.
